Groundswell

"Blue, green, grey, white, or black; smooth, ruffled, or mountainous; that ocean is not silent."

H.P. Lovecraft

I love people. I can honestly say I've never met a person I didn't find fascinating and beautiful.

I earned a B.A. in Psychology from Ball State University, and an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology. My academic research focused on gender and sexual wellness, and I volunteered as a victims' advocate for survivors of sexual assault. While completing my degrees, I spent several years working with adolescents in trauma-informed residential treatment. I completed my internship at Lahai Health in Washington providing psychotherapy for low-income individuals of all ages. Prior to starting a private practice, I provided milieu support for clients in eating disorder recovery at Opal Food + Body, and worked as a behavioral counselor treating adults with mood and anxiety disorders at Insight Behavioral Health.

Outside of therapy, I love learning about neuroscience, personality typology, and philosophy. People in my life describe me as curious, playful, empathic, sarcastic, and outgoing. I opened my therapy practice in 2019, and am licensed in Washington as an LMHC and in Minnesota as an LPC.

A groundswell is a shift in the earth at the bottom of the ocean. This movement sends a wave of energy through the water to the surface. Even the smallest change in the bedrock makes massive swells.

Like the ocean, we have a surface life (that which is visible to ourselves and others) and we have mysterious depths, our unconscious selves. Therapy is diving down, asking questions of our depths: What causes these still and stagnant waters? What creates this swirling chaos? Beneath our day to day awareness we find memory, unrealized desires, secret pain, and hidden motivations. We find things we didn’t know about ourselves, and that new knowing empowers us.

Little shifts in those deep places have a profound and lasting impact on who we are, transforming the surface of our life in a powerful upward current.
